Meet Wanyi
Wanyi Hu came to therapy through medicine. She trained first as a physician in China, including a psychiatry internship where she sat with patients in crisis and learned how much healing depends on being truly seen, not just diagnosed. That path carried her from Hunan to Hong Kong to Pennsylvania, where she completed her master's in Counseling and Human Services at Lehigh University.
Since then, she has worked across some of the harder terrain in mental health: crisis intervention with high-risk adolescents, bilingual counseling for immigrant and international students navigating identity and displacement, and more than 1,500 hours of individual, couples, and family therapy through a global employee assistance program. She integrates EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Relational Life Therapy, and psychodynamic work; always looking for what's underneath the presenting problem.
Wanyi provides therapy in both English and Mandarin, and is especially drawn to work with couples, families, and anyone whose trauma has been misread as "just anxiety" or "just stress."
How I Work:
-
Wanyi works with adolescents to adults and couples in English or Mandarin, with particular depth in cross-cultural experience: immigrants, international students, and first- and second-generation clients navigating identity, family expectation, and belonging between two worlds. She also works with trauma survivors, clients moving through anxiety, depression, and major life transitions, and LGBTQ+ clients seeking affirming care.

My specialties are:
Trauma and EMDR
Couples and Relationship Therapy
Immigration and Cultural Identity
Anxiety and Depression
Neurodivergence
LGBTQQ+ Affirming Care
Bilingual Therapy (Mandarin/English)
-
Wanyi's clinical path began in medicine — an MBBS-equivalent degree from Hunan Normal University with a psychiatry internship at Hunan Provincial People's Hospital, where she took part in psychiatric assessments, crisis intervention, and suicide risk evaluation. She went on to earn her M.Ed. in Counseling at Lehigh University, training in attachment-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approaches alongside EFT, IFS, and psychodynamic work.
Since October 2024, she has provided bilingual telehealth therapy to individuals, couples, and families through Intellect's international Employee Assistance Program. She has also worked as a therapist for high-risk adolescents and families at Third Way Center in Denver, as a graduate trainee in Muhlenberg College's counseling center, and as a bilingual counseling intern at East Stroudsburg University. In 2024, she presented at the National Higher Education Teaching Conference on supporting diverse learners, and contributed to attachment research through Lehigh's Circle of Security® and trauma/DV research labs.
